Flock 'PE' Fabulous Females
If the rams are half of the flock the ewes are the other. Ever since we founded our flock in 1986, we have strived to introduce ewes from prepotent familes, then selected the ewes that best suited our management. The result being several lines that consistantly produce above average progeny.
Tracing back to our first ever charollais purchase DZ 6018. Dalby SJ - PE 3011 by Netherallan Majestic has been a major influence in our flock. Her full brother Dalby Mr Waggy - PE 3010 stood 2nd at the Royal Show 1994, before being sold to Findatie and Castlemilk flocks for £1,500. His progeny sold to 5,000 gns.
When flushed SJ bred several progeny by Banville Baron and Tilton Maverick, these ewes in turn have bred some really outstanding sheep including Dalby Champagne and Dalby Finesse.
Dalby Champagne - PE 2060, the best sheep I have ever bred or are likely to breed. Champagne was sired by Dalby Blaster Bates and out of a Maverick daughter of SJ. Champagne has been a consistant and major prize winner including Breed Champion at the Royal Show in 2003. In 2005 she was shown six times and won an impressive 5 Interbreed titles and being Female & Reserve Breed Champion at the Royal Show. Her greatest achievement undoubtly was winning the 'Intervet Champion of Champions' at Royal Welsh 2005, being the first ever Charollais to do so. She was also part of the 'Interbreed Pairs Champion' at the same show. She also took the title of Eastern Regional Show Sheep of the Year 2005. Her first daughter PE 5035 was top priced female at Worcester Premier Sale 2006.
Dalby Finesse - PE 5095, a really smart shearling sired by Rutland Ensign, out of a Banville Baron daughter, of SJ. Finesse has won 3 Breed Championships, 1 Interbreed and 1 Reserve Interbreed Championships. She was also placed 3rd at the Royal and Royal Welsh. Finesse was also crowned Eastern Regional Show Sheep of the Year 2006.
Crogham Bryony - AB 1029, was purchased for 1,400 gns. She is from Crogham's top type and index family and sired by the Sire Reference Ram Highway Caradog. Bryony was succesfuly shown as a 3-shear winning several 1st prizes. Her progeny include our stock ram Dalby Epic - a son of Dalby Concorde, and four full sisters who have all bred some good lambs by Rutland Ensign.
PE 4044 - Dalby Miss Muffit, a daughter of Dalby Mr Waggy and GZ 1024 'Tufty', Miss Muffit has had a major influence within our flock. Tufty, a sheep a head of her time, because she displayed imense power and head cover, was from the top female family in Sam Woods Kilnbank flock, who all achieved the highest prices at his dispersal. Tufty became the 4th succesive generation to win a Championship and Miss Muffit the 5th.
Miss Muffit's real claim to fame was as a brood ewe, being the dam of several stock sires, including the 2,300 gns Dalby Aramis and her progeny sales total over £20,000. She was also grand-dam to many high priced and prize winning progeny including the 4,600 gns Dalby Ferrari, the top show Sire Reference Ram Rutland Ensign and the 2,400 gns Dalby Chardonay.
There are now many individuals, by numerous rams throughout the flock, the latest to come to prominence is PE 5252 Dalby Felicity, a D'Artagnan shearling ewe who was Champion at Ashby Show 2006. In 2007 she has continued her success by taking three class wins and reserve breed and reserve interbreed at Derby Show.
Edstaston Deidre - TG 3030, purchased as a ewe lamb because it was from the top Edstaston family and by Dalby Aramis. She was full brother to Edstaston Denzil who was much admired. She developed into a show shearling who was 2nd at the Royal Show, 3rd at the Royal Welsh, 1st and Reserve Champion at Derby Show. From her first lambing crop she has produced Dalby Freda - PE 5226 by D'Artagnan, who is our highest index shearling and who was Breed Champion at Newark Show 2006 and 2nd to Champion at Leicester Show.
